Obata Saki "Record of the Seasons 2"

The parking area on a departure morning when the sky begins to lighten, the determination for a new life brought by the view from the window, a heart cultivated by tilling the soil, the Obon holiday spent welcoming and seeing off loved ones, the sound of autumn rain and being alone, spending time doing nothing in particular with friends by the riverside, an empty morning bus warmed by the low sun, breakfast bought at an unfamiliar convenience store in an unfamiliar place, a family gathering around the kotatsu at the dinner table.

Illustrator Saki Obata, who is active in various media including covers for magazines and books both in Japan and abroad, continues to create seasonal illustrations as personal work, separate from her client work. The world created from her minimalist and smart lines depicts the mundane moments of daily life alongside the changing seasons like a scene from a movie, recalling to the viewer the time and scenery, emotions and memories that have come and gone through reality and fiction. This second collection of works, which includes new pieces in addition to carefully selected works from her zines that previously sold out immediately, features primarily monochrome works, but also includes color works introduced like accent colors.
