Yamamoto Nobuko, "One Day: Reading and Fragments"

In the window of May, there were fleeting clouds, vibrant greenery, and pure singing voices, and it felt as if there was nothing more I wished for myself.

This is a collection of fragmented diary entries by book designer Nobuko Yamamoto, who also publishes through her own label "Hiroiyomi-sha," born from her endless interest in books and words, reading and writing.
The entries, titled "A Certain Day," begin in March and end in March, featuring quotes from books she was reading at the time, such as Kafka, Benjamin, Blanchot, Tabucchi, Sebald, Atsuko Suga, Michizo Tachihara, Natsuko Kuroda, and Hiromasa Ichimura, alongside fragments of her day, inextricably linked to those readings. It evokes the unexpected expansion and richness that reading brings to everyday life, and reminds one of the poetic descriptions of emotions and memories in American poet May Sarton's diaries, which unfold in connection with nature and her surroundings. A truly poetic volume.
The design is also wonderful, fully conveying the charm of a physical book, with four types of paper suggesting the changing seasons for the body text, and a soft, sculptural cover art. For those moments between reading and writing.
