Twenty-five years after the launch of the legendary zine "sumus," a new zine about used books, created by a younger generation, is making its debut. It was born from the desire to "let young people know the joy and depth of used books, even if only a little, and to ensure that the culture of used books continues uninterrupted." The inaugural issue's special feature is "zines." Leading the issue is an interview with Toshio Kimuro, author of "Yama no Kumo" and "Mado no Bihu" (Mizunowa Publishing), which discussed the poetry magazines and poets of Kobe Modernism, and was the trigger for editor Daichi Hayashi's zine collection. The issue also includes essays and discussions on "Kobe Dada poet" Sankuro Ukegawa, "Dotonbori's almost forgotten corner poet" Toshio Ito, and zines related to Masuji Ibuse and Kobo Abe, among others. There are also pages unique to a zine focused on used books, such as a report on the results of the Chionji Temple Autumn Used Book Festival in Kyoto. It is in full color with many photographs. The design work, reminiscent of Russian Avant-garde, is also distinctive, making this a truly weighty inaugural issue.
