“12 Melodies for a Cafe” was born from a request by Hummingbird Coffee in Meguro, Tokyo, to musician Hayato Aoki. It features the time that flows between sounds, and reverberations like ripples. The faint tones of guitar, synthesizer, and piano reveal the musician's roots in blues and ambient music. Recorded inside the cafe, the sounds seem to capture the changing light and atmosphere of the space as time passes. It's music for coffee time, much like music for furniture or airports. Mastering was done by Gen Tanabe. The product design, featuring letterpress printing on cardboard, was done by Aoki himself. The jacket features a woodblock print by wood sculptor "Umano Hanamuke," inspired by Hummingbird Coffee.
