Being Hong Kong | Visit Hong Kong "Summer 2024"

With the tagline "RE," "Being Hong Kong | 就係香港" is a book-magazine that re-examines Hong Kong's past, present, and future from multiple perspectives through humanities, history, community and life, urban landscapes and natural ecology, design and art, among other topics. It is a quarterly publication, issued four times a year, that possesses strong interviewing and editorial capabilities, meticulously delving into each theme while being interdisciplinary. Its visual design conveys the charm of a physical book, attracting readers not only in Hong Kong but also worldwide.

The 2024 summer issue, titled "Passing Through Hong Kong," is a "mobility" special timed to coincide with memorial anniversaries for Hong Kong's transportation: MTR's 45th, buses' 100th, and trams' 120th. It looks back at the history of Hong Kong's transportation system development, boasting one of the world's most extensive networks, from sedan chairs to rickshaws, trams, streetcars, MTR, buses, and taxis. It traces the transformation from steam and diesel locomotives and the KCR (Kowloon-Canton Railway) that once connected Kowloon and Canton to the MTR, and captures the changing landscapes of Nathan Road and Prince Edward Road, which, as main arteries, have embraced the city's evolution, as well as the history of Tsim Sha Tsui, which became a hub for land, sea, and air transport. The issue also features art pieces that have extracted Hong Kong's urbanity from various modes of transportation and reflects on how 100 years of transportation planning have reshaped districts and people's lives. This issue traces Hong Kong's journey through various modes of transportation and the landscapes seen from them.

Included as a special bonus are six stickers featuring double-decker buses from the 1950s to the 1980s, from KMB and CMB, Hong Kong's representative bus companies that operate the most double-decker buses in the world.
