This is a collection of works born from the "Sketching Landscapes with Descriptive Prose" workshop, led since 2023 in Okayama City by novelist Yusuke Norishiro, who has accumulated about 300 written landscape sketches over seven years ("sitting quietly for 20 or 30 minutes, gazing at the landscape in front of him and writing"). It includes landscape sketches written during the three workshops, organized by theme and location, as well as landscapes from Tochigi, Niigata, Kyoto, Edinburgh, and other places that participants wrote outside of the workshop. Writing about the same landscape as someone else, finding and writing about a favorite landscape, and actually walking through a landscape described by another. Turning one's gaze to the surroundings of this moment and place, capturing what can be seen and heard, and the changes brought about by the passage of time felt on the skin, dispassionately, through the medium of oneself. Enhancing the resolution of one's perception of the world, writing about it in one's own words, and sharing it with others, one establishes, discovers, and deepens one's unique relationship with the landscape through this physical body. This offers a world of enjoyment in reading/writing, different from diaries that record inner thoughts and daily life.
