Editor Shogo Shimada wrote this by walking the entirety of "Horikawa-dori," his root, from north to south, recalling memories from the scenes he witnessed. It is an essay collection where "Horikawa-dori must be the only starting point for discussion." The texture of the city, seen from the perspective of a resident of Kyoto, not found in tourist guides, is expressed in his own words.

I was born and raised in Kyoto, worked in Osaka once, moved to another city, and then returned to this city. The city where I lived casually as a child somehow feels strangely endearing when I return to it again. Through my experience in urban development and building a career as an editor, I began to want to do what I could in this city. In the process, I realized that "Horikawa-dori," where I was born and raised and now run a publishing house and bookstore, is a bit special to me. You could say it's "Represent Horikawa-dori." This is just my case, but I'm sure everyone has their own beloved areas and places. This book is created for "the people of this city and everyone else outside this city," with the thought that it might evoke each person's feeling of "I love this city."
